Ethan's school had a fundraiser today in which they held a 5K fun run. This was the first race we've done together. I think he just wanted to do the race so he could get out of some school work and get extra credit for some classes. Ok, that was a good incentive for the school kids. Regardless of the incentive, it was great to see so many youth participating. Kids respond well to bribes. I assume that 300 or so did it. Ethan did track this year after basketball, but he hasn't done a race longer than a mile. For his first long distance race, he did great. He came in just over 22 minutes for about a 7:15 pace. He sprinted the last quarter mile or so not wanting to let his friend, Parker beat him. He's so competitive. I don't know where he gets that from. He almost kept up with his daddy. I swore going in that I would not compete for time and just enjoy and run it with Ethan. It started out that way running a little casual. But, when I saw those kids taking off, something inside me just would not let me subside. I finished with a 6:48 pace. Sorry Ethan, maybe next time!
Great picture! It's so weird seeing our kids take us on in size!! I'm always impressed when anyone runs a race!! Way to go boys!
