2011 Ragnar

The natural hot springs of Heber. We had to swing in here for a little bit of r & r. The guy next to me is Tim Flinders. Tim lives a few houses done from us and the guy next to Tim was a work buddy and the guy in the white shirt was Eric Gale's brother. I definitely have to bring my family here. I can't believe I haven't done this yet with them. I need to get with it and bring the gang on over

Ragnar was a race of about 180 miles with 12 people on the team. Each of us did anywhere between 13 to 21 miles depending on the legs. Each of these legs was divided into 3 segments and you rotate through with everyone on the team. Everyone did such an amazing job and we all had a great time and got along well. It was so fun that this is 1 race I will be doing again this year with some of the same people. The people I knew on this team were Tim and Becky Flinders, Heather Haynie, Kristina and Eric Gale, and David Greer. These are friends from the neighborhood and in my ward. My leg was not the longest, only 16 miles, but the team leader, Eric Gale, did decide to give me the leg with what is referred to in the Wasatch Back Ragnar as "The Hill." Basically, because no one else on the team wanted it and because I wasn't at the team meeting the night they divided up the leg slots. He thought it would be funny to give me the hardest leg. Wise guy! So, the infamous "hill" was basically 5 miles straight up the mountain trail. That was brutal. At times, it was actually faster to walk than it was to run. I remember passing up quite a few people, but then there was this 1 guy who was just trotting up that hill like he was going downhill. He was incredible. I couldn't believe someone could run that fast going pretty much straight up. Some people are inspiring...or is it depressing

Our neighbors, the Hanna's, lent us their van.  They were so great about it.  Upon asking them to allow us to use it, I totally expected them to say no, because they had recently purchased it, and I assumed they would not like to go without it for their family since they have 7 kids.  Yes, we named our team, The Pain Train.  We named it for the obvious reasons but also because of our team donating the raised funds from before hand for the American Cancer Society.  We did the run for a great cause as well
